History and milestones
Nordisk Mobiltelefon AB was established in 2003 with the objective to deploy and operate premium grade mobile telecommunications networks for Mobile Telephony, Mobile Broadband, Fixed Wireless Telephony and Machine-to-Machine services. The business plan is based on the unique advantages achieved by combining CDMA2000 3G technology with radio transmission in the low frequency 450MHz and 410MHz bands. When the networks are fully deployed, users will experience cost-effective access to advanced services with near total geographic coverage.
A management team was assembled to kick off the project work in the fall of 2003, following the formal initiation of a Swedish licensing process for the 450MHz band. At present, the following licenses have been acquired by or awarded to the company group:
- June 2004, 450MHz license in Norway. Commercial launch June 2006
- March 2005, 450MHz license in Sweden. Commercial soft launch January 2007, first marketing campaign initiated summer 2007

Nordisk Mobiltelefon will deploy nation-wide networks and offer a unique combination of coverage and services in each of the present 6 markets and, in addition, to seek additional licenses on a case by case basis with the emphasis on Northern Europe. The know-how developed in this process is also planned to be available on a franchise basis for operators and business partners that want to follow our concept in other parts of the world.
